The Ukrainian Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Ukrainian Legal Alliance collaborated to host a Legal Careers Seminar and Networking Event for foreign legal professionals in Canada. Yuriy Diakunchak, a Commercial and Community Accounts Officer at Ukrainian Credit Union opened the floor by shedding light on Credit Unions in Canada, and benefits of membership along with discussing potential careers at UCU. This session provided attendees with an understanding of the financial landscape in Canada, and how the Credit Union tailors financial products and services to meet the unique needs of members and empower individuals and business to achieve their financial goals.
Taras Kulish, Senior Lawyer at Mills & Mills LLP, provided a comprehensive overview on transitioning into a Canadian lawyer from entry-level positions. Hamiwka acts as a mentor in and provided information about the Metropolitan Toronto University LLP Program which provides legal professionals with an approved pathway to lawyer licensing in Ontario as an alternative to articling. LLP candidates would enhance their legal knowledge, develop an understanding of the Canadian legal system and cultivate practical skills necessary for success within the Canadian legal market.
Michael P. Mychailyshyn, Head of Regulatory and Legal Compliance, and Associate Counsel at Ukrainian Credit Union brought a unique perspective to the event, offering insight into the world of regulatory and legal compliance within financial institutions.
Anton Haswell, Director of Legal Studies at Toronto School of Management provided attendees with information on various legal education programs available and the importance of choosing the right path to suit their career aspirations.
