April 26th is World IP Day and this year’s theme is Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (“WIPO”) explains,

Every April 26, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day to learn about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year, we are exploring the future of culture in the digital age: how we create it, how we access it, how we finance it. We will look into how a flexible intellectual property system helps ensure that the artists and creative industries are properly paid for their work, so they can keep creating.

To celebrate, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and Canada Business Network will be hosting a twitter chat on April 26th from noon to 1:00PM.  The hastag #SMEPME can be used to participate in the event.
