Serena is a member of the firm’s Estates Group where she advises clients on all aspects of estate planning, estate administration and family trusts. Serena’s practice is focused on crafting dynamic estate planning strategies for families and individuals which balance their specific needs with corresponding income tax and probate tax considerations. Clients can rely on Serena to prepare planning documents ranging from basic Wills, to complex Primary and Secondary Wills containing Life Insurance Trusts, Disability Trusts, Education Trusts, and solutions for blended families, together with personalized Powers of Attorney for Personal Care and for Property. She also assists clients in the preparation of Alter Ego Trusts, Joint Spousal Trusts, and Family Trusts to hold investments, real estate, and family business interests. Serena approaches her work with a sensitivity to clients’ concerns and strives to communicate technical advice in a straightforward manner.
In the context of Estate Administration matters, Serena advises executors and beneficiaries and collaborates with financial advisors, accountants and other professionals to efficiently carry out the estate administration process.
Prior to joining Mills & Mills LLP as an associate in 2017, Serena articled and practiced at a mid-sized downtown Toronto law firm as a member of the Tax and Estates Group. There she focused on high-net-worth estate planning and administration with an emphasis on implementing tax-efficient strategies.
Serena holds a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School and a B.A. from Dalhousie University. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations, and the Toronto Junior Trusts and Estates Practitioners’ Group.
Outside of her part-time law practice, Serena spends most of her time with her husband and young children. Her interests include travel, biking, skiing and lattes.
