Leanne Townsend is Chair of the Family Law Group and joined Mills & Mills LLP in 2021. She practices exclusively in the area of family law, with particular expertise in cases involving domestic violence and spousal abuse.
Prior to joining Mills & Mills LLP, Leanne was a Partner at a midsize, boutique firm on Bay Street where she practiced exclusively family law. In addition, Leanne spent over eleven years with her own firm developing her litigation and negotiation skills as a family lawyer. She brings a balanced approach to her clients with her compassion and people skills, combined with her strength as a litigator. She is a strong negotiator and is very resolution-oriented, but should a resolution not be feasible, her courtroom skills ensure that her client’s rights are always protected.
Leanne also spent over 16 years as an Assistant Crown Attorney prosecuting a wide range of criminal offences, and she acted as the Domestic Violence Lead Prosecutor within her office for over 10 years. In her role as a prosecutor she gained significant trial experience and exceptional skills as a litigator. She has always had a particular interest in domestic violence and helping victims of abuse. She brings this interest, skill and training to her work today in family law.
Leanne is regularly interviewed in the media, on television and the radio, as well as on podcasts throughout North America. She is also a regular contributor to various publications including The Lawyer’s Daily and Divorce Magazine. Leanne is also featured as a speaker at various events including most recently at Toronto’s Elite Divorce Party. She is host of the Divorcing Well Podcast which has over 15,000 downloads and cohost of the YouTube Show, The Dish on Divorce. In addition, Leanne is very active on social media and has been very innovative by using her platform to educate and provide helpful information to members of the public who are going through separation and divorce.
